National Seniors Day is an important occasion. It’s a day that asks everyone to think about and acknowledge the valuable contributions older people make to society every day of the year.

They are our family.

They are our volunteers.

They are our colleagues.

They are our friends.

They are us.

Their impact can be felt in every aspect of our lives.

But, for us at CanAge, National Seniors Day is even more personal.

October 1st marks the 1 year anniversary of VOICES, our inaugural policy book which makes 135 expert-endorsed recommendations on how governments can protect and improve the lives of older Canadians.

To mark this milestone, we’re proud to release our first-ever Impact Report, showcasing all that we’ve accomplished on behalf of our national network of partners, members and supporters, and Canada’s more than 6.8 million seniors.

As an organization, CanAge may be young, but we’re growing up fast. And we’re just getting started!

Our Impact

We’ve been working tirelessly to move the needle on the issues that matter to you.

Thankfully, the hard work has paid off!

What's Next

We’ve got some big plans for the coming year. Here’s a sneak peak at what we’re working on.

  • VOICES 2.0

We’ll be releasing an updated version of our policy book VOICES, reflecting new emerging issues and checking off the recommendations we’ve accomplished through our advocacy.

  • Supporting people living with dementia

We’re assessing each province and territory on how well they’re meeting the needs of people living with cognitive decline, and reporting on the results so we can push governments to do better.

  • Prioritizing adult vaccinations and preventive health

We won’t rest until every older Canadian has free and easy access to the vaccinations they need to stay safe. Stay tuned for a new version of our explosive Vaccine Report Card alongside other initiatives promoting flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines for adults.

  • Sharing cutting-edge innovations in health care

New advancements in health care are being announced every day in Canada. Watch out for an exciting announcement coming soon that will connect you with these life-changing developments!

  • Working with the financial sector to protect and better serve older customers

We’re helping banks and financial service providers understand and prevent elder abuse, so every senior stays in control of their money.

  • Closing gaps in seniors’ transportation

We’re launching, in collaboration with HelpAge Canada, a national accelerator program to identify and scale innovative solutions to seniors’ transportation across the country.

Celebrating You

Last but not least, a huge and heartfelt thank you to our members, supporters, partners and everyone else who has helped CanAge help so many others over the last year and a half.

We are hearing on a regular basis, from all levels of government, organizations and people in the aging sector, that CanAge has quickly become the national advocacy group to work with in moving the needle on issues affecting older people in our country. This is a responsibility that we do not, and will not, take for granted. Working collaboratively is key to our mandate and CanAge’s success means success for members, colleague organizations and policy-makers. We make change happen.  Together.

We celebrate our success alongside each and every one of you.

Happy National Seniors’ Day. Here’s to another year of action in making Canada the best place to age.
