On Feb 28th, we presented to the federal government’s Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology on the need to better protect low income seniors from GIS clawbacks, like those caused by CERB during the pandemic.
CanAge has been working directly with the federal Minister of Seniors to correct major inequities that caused countless low income seniors to be further plunged into poverty after claiming CERB. We also pushed for financial support to come sooner than at first promised, warning the government that older people can’t wait months for the support they rely on to simply make ends meet.
We are continuing our work with the federal government to support the financial well-being of seniors, including bringing pension protection up to par and empowering older consumers who launch complaints against banks.
We continue to support and endorse Bill C-12, which will prevent unfair loss of GIS in the future.
