New federal Minister of Seniors Kamal Khera recently reached out to CanAge to discuss our top issues affecting older Canadians, and meet our team. We were honoured to be among the first to speak to Minister Khera as she prepares to undertake her critical new station in the recently re-elected federal government.
During our full hour with the Minister (a rare privilege, as most meetings are limited to 20 minutes or less!), we laid out our policy book, VOICES, walking her through our policy recommendations on critical issues including including adult vaccination, seniors’ care, financial security, caregiver supports and elder abuse.
We continue to be impressed with Minister Khera, whose background in nursing is sure to be an asset in understanding the complex care needs to older people across the country. We’re watching closely for the release of the new Ministers’ mandate letters, and look forward to working hand-in-hand with them to support the rights of older Canadians across jurisdictions.
We’ll be meeting again with the Minister of Seniors, along with a panel of other stakeholders in the aging sector, in January. Stay tuned for updates!
